Dr. Bernsteins research areas span a broad range of issues in energy and environment including economic
impacts of efficiency and renewable energy, climate change policy, technology diffusion, and making energy
decisions under uncertainty. He has advised the Speaker of the CA State Assembly on energy issues during
Californias electricity crisis. He has performed work for US Department of Energy, the California Energy
Commission, and private and municipal electric utilities among others.
Previously, Dr. Bernstein spent seven years on the faculty of the University of Pennsylvania and as Director
of the Center for Energy and the Environment where his primary work focused on economic and environmental
impacts of energy. He holds a Ph.D. in Energy Management and Environmental Policy from the University of
Pennsylvania, and a Masters and Bachelors in Mathematics.
