Stephen L. Baum is chairman, president, chief executive officer, and a member of the board of
directors of Sempra Energy, a San Diego-based Fortune 500 energy services holding company whose
subsidiaries provide electricity, natural gas and value-added products and services. The Sempra
Energy companies employ nearly 12,000 employees and serve more than 9 million customers in the
United States, Europe, Canada, Mexico, South America and Asia.
In his current position, which he has held since September 2000, Baum directs the strategic operations
of all the Sempra Energy companies. Baum has been actively involved in leading the development of
Sempra Energy’s international operations. He spearheaded successful negotiations to build, with other
partners, natural gas distribution systems in Mexicali and Chihuahua, Mexico. Baum is a graduate of
Harvard University and the University of Virginia Law School.
